An ambulance on the scene of the incident in the 1000 block of Baxter Avenue.
The bodies were found inside this home in the Highlands.
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Louisville Metro Police were called to a home in the 1000 block of Baxter Avenue in the Highlands where two bodies were discovered, according to multiple emergency agencies.
A WAVE 3 crew on the scene reported seeing emergency personnel entering the home wearing masks. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office was called to the scene.
"We were neighbors and she did some sewing for me," said one neighbor.
"I've known her since the 1980's," said friend Barbara Kutnicki. She knew the two people well.
"She was a very kind and giving person. She'd constantly buy things at consignment stores and bring me beautiful clothes," said Kutnicki.
She says her son recently moved in with her.
"He recently got on disability and had heart trouble and he just moved in with her several months ago and I thought all was going to be well," said Kutnicki.
Things took a turn Monday afternoon around 3:30, when officers were dispatched to the home on a welfare check.
It isn't clear how the man and woman passed away, or how long they had been dead.
"I don't want to speculate on that, but it appears to have been for some time," said LMPD Spokesperson Dwight Mitchell.
A cat inside the home was given to two family members.
Officers stayed on the scene Monday night, continuing their investigation.
Friends say they started to fear the worst when no one could reach the two.
"I thought this is odd, I feel like something's wrong and I then I get a call that nobody else can find her. She was supposed to show up at a planned event last night and she didn't and she didn't call," Kutnicki said.
While the homicide unit was called to the scene, police were treating the case as a death investigation and didn't have more details.
