LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville man was killed and his dog was shot at his own home. It happened early Saturday morning on Bicknell Avenue in the Beechmont neighborhood.
Saturday evening, police said they do not have any suspects. The Jefferson County Coroner's office has identified the victim as Bryan William Lewis, 21.
Just after 2 Saturday morning, "I heard pow, pow, pow," said Ray Farris, who lives across the street. "And then pow, pow, pow, pow again."
Police found Lewis dead inside his home. Harold Richards is Lewis' neighbor and friend, but did not want to go on camera.
"He was a real good guy," Richards said. "It shouldn't have happened to him."
Farris said "That boy, he ain't even started to live yet."
Investigators said a pit bull was also shot but is expected to survive. Richards said he is trying to make sense of it all.
"Everything about him was good," Richards said, speaking about his friend. "Well respected. Played ball, take care of his babies, be with his girlfriend. I ain't see nothing else out of the ordinary he could've been doing."
Richards pointed to photos he said are from Lewis' Facebook profile where people are leaving condolence messages.
"My condolences to his family. And I hope they can deal with it the best way that they can," Richards said. "It just shows me that any given day, any given time, you know regardless of who you are, you're not invisible. Good bad, you can go."
Police say that dog was taken by animal control for treatment. As of Saturday evening, there was no word on the dog's condition. Anyone who has information is asked to call Metro Police at (502) 574-LMPD.
