LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - U of L Vice President of Athletics Tom Jurich met with the media on Monday afternoon to talk about his first 15 years in Louisville.
When joined by men's head basketball coach Rick Pitino, Jurich announced that he is trying to extend Pitino's contract by 5 years.
"I want to take him out another 5 after this, so take him to age 70," Jurich said. "As you see, I think he's somebody who is 60 going on 35, I really believe that."
Pitino's current contract expires in 2017. He had said last season that it would be his last contract, but has since backed off of that statement.
"When things aren't going well in my life, personally, I go home and I just snore, I just fall asleep," Pitino told WAVE 3 Sports. "Right now I'm very passionate, I'm very much into it, I think when the day comes where I just go to bed and I just immediately fall asleep, it's time."
Pitino is 275-106 in 11 seasons as the U of L head coach, including Final Four trips in 2005 and 2012.
The Cards tip off the 2012-13 season on Sunday, November 11, hosting Manhattan.
