Prop. 120 would give Arizona control of federal land
PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A controversial proposition on the Arizona ballot would amend the state constitution to give control of millions of acres of federal land, including the Grand Canyon, to the state government.
Supporters, including several state lawmakers and the Arizona Farm Bureau, say Prop. 120 will help create jobs by allowing the state to sell or develop unused federal land. They also claim the state government will do a better job than the feds managing forests, parks and rivers.
The Arizona Wilderness Coalition and the Grand Canyon Trust are both opposed. They claim the measure is unconstitutional and would make Arizona responsible for lands they can't afford to manage.
