Cheap eats for kids and families on a budget

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - If you have children, an easy way to save money while eating out is to dine where they eat for free. There are a lot of restaurants with kid-friendly deals, the key is to go on the day and during the hours that the deals are being offered.

Whether it's barbeque at Mark's Feed Store or a big dish of pasta at Rocky's on the River, parents seem to flock to places that offer ways to save.

"We're a local restaurant and we love our families" Kelly Leonardo said.  Leonardo is the Director of Marketing for both Buckheads Mountain Grill and Rocky's Pizza and Subs, "We definitely bring in the families, so we wanted to give something back to mom and dad" Leonardo said.

What they give back equals big savings.

At Buckheads on Bardstown Road and Rocky's on the River kids eat free Monday through Thursday. Families get two kids meals with one adult entree.

It's the same deal at every Mark's Feed Store. Though the actual freebies start on Mondays with deserts, but every Tuesday is kids eat free night.  It's 2 meals with 1 adult entree purchase. "Come in here, get free food, that's just good stewardship," said Daniel Leitner, Manager at the Mark's in Middletown.

Tumbleweed is another great local steward. Pick up the kids tacos or burritos on Sunday and you won't pay a penny. "It's family day, Sunday," said owner Mike Higgins, "So it made sense that we tied that in."

"We know people appreciate it. If you come to tumbleweed on Sundays, you're going to be surrounded by families, so it works."

Other restaurants to check out for freebies, Texas Roadhouse on Mondays, Chili's, Applebees and Denny's on Tuesday. Also visit web sites like www.kidseatforfree.com.

And always call before you go. In our search we found a few places that did not match web site information about current deals, so it pays to call ahead.
