LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – After more than three decades, big changes are coming to Light Up Louisville.

The annual holiday event is moving to a new location on 4th Street and will expand to include a new nightly light show, 40 Nights of Lights, along a four-block corridor of 4th Street beginning Friday, November 23.

According to the city's website, louisvilleky.gov, opening night of 40 Nights of Lights will feature "a breathtaking celebration of high-powered, computerized, in-motion, color and pattern-changing lights all programmed to music, a large-screen jumbo-tron, fireworks and entertainment along the 4th Street corridor from Main to Liberty Streets."

The website also says 40 Nights of Lights will culminate on New Year's Eve with a grand finale and fireworks show.

The city says Light Up Louisville's new venue, a change from the Jefferson Square area, and the addition of 40 Nights of Lights will reinvigorate the iconic event and enhance the economic performance of downtown Louisville during the holidays.

Mayor Greg Fischer will announce additional information about this year's revamped Light Up Louisville celebration and the city's plans for New Year's Eve during a news conference Monday at 11 a.m. In addition, new corporate and community sponsors for Light Up Louisville will be announced.

This will be the 32nd year for Light Up Louisville.
