SIMPSONVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The Shelby County Sheriff's Department is investigating after a Simpsonville woman told them her neighbors shot and killed several dogs.
The woman said she stumbled upon a gruesome scene near a creek off Fisherville Road around noon on Sunday: between five and eight dead dogs.
"There was so many dead dogs down there," said the woman who wants to remain anonymous. "They were all shot in the head."
She said she confronted her neighbor.
"She said they didn't want them anymore," the woman said. "I asked how come they couldn't take them to the Humane Society, and she said they didn't want them.
The woman took pictures of the dead dogs and called 911.
She claims she saw juveniles carry out the dog killings, "taking them down there, shooting them. Then once I tell them I called the cops, they go down there and they start bagging them up," the woman said.
When WAVE 3 approached the neighbors' house and asked whether they had any comment, someone come to a deck and shouted, "No, but you can leave."
The scene haunts the woman who called police.
"I love animals. Who don't? How could you not? I just could not believe that somebody would do that," she said. "There's way more options. You can find someone who's willing to adopt, foster. You don't just take them down there and kill them."
A Shelby County sheriff's deputy said the agency responded to the scene Sunday afternoon and that there is an open investigation. He said the case will be presented to the Shelby County Attorney's office.
