POINT PLEASANT, NJ (NBC) - With the rising of the sun the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy can be seen.

Beachfront homes, hotels and other structures were heavily damaged or completely destroyed on Point Pleasant Beach after Sandy took down the dune that would have protected them.

The first floor of most properties is gone. Windows were blown out and the plywood that was put up to protect structures is missing.

On the streets there is sand about three to four feet deep. Some streets are still under water.

Forecasters estimate the surge that came rolling in last night was about three or four feet high.

Power is out on the beach.
