Mail unable to be delivered after train derailment

WEST POINT, KY (WAVE) – The fire that broke out after a train derailment has caused the closure of several post offices.

The post offices announced they would be closed on Wednesday afternoon, and will reopen once an evacuation order placed on a 1.2 mile area is lifted.

Mail will not be delivered in West Point, but customers will be able to pick up mail at the Muldraugh Post, located at 114 South Main Street, beginning, Thursday, November 1.

The following southwest Jefferson County block ranges will also not be able to have mail delivered;

  • 13000 Hinchbrook
  • 6700 Pendleton
  • 13000 Kinross
  • 6700 John Adams
  • 13000 Snowden
  • 13000 Horncastle
  • 6900 Welford
  • 13000 Greystone
  • 13000 Laverton
  • 1000, 11000 and 12000 Lower River Road

Customers who live in the affected southwest Jefferson County block routes can pick up their mail at the Pleasure Ridge Park Post Office, located at 6121 Greenwood Road, in Louisville.

The PRP Post Office is open from  8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Muldraugh Post Office is open 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
