Parents concerned about dismissal of students

BULLITT COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – Many parentsin Bullitt County said their Halloween took a scary turn after they saw a crawlon their television screen about Nichols Elementary.

Nichols is the closest Bullitt CountySchool to the site where a train that derailed caught fire. The school districtannounced a "shelter in place" status as a precaution, but a while later thedistrict decided to dismiss students.

A few parents who went to the schoolwere not happy when they saw their children getting on a school bus andwondered why they were not sent home early.

Parent Kelly Schulten said, "I thoughtthey were going to evacuate them. When there's a scare like that what are yougoing to do?"

Principal Sheri Hamilton explained, "Wereally did have a great day until this afternoon, but everything went smoothly.Parents checked out kids as needed and we were fine."

Hamilton said while parents worried,the students were mostly excited about Halloween and never missed a beat atschool.
