Railroad opens outreach center to help displaced residents

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The railroad whose train derailed and forced evacuations has set up an outreach center to help reimburse those affected by the accident. 

The P&L Railway Outreach Center is at VFW Post 1181, located at 6518 Blevins Gap Road. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.  

The center will make reimbursements to people for the following:

• Expenses incurred for food and lodging by residents evacuated from their homes
• Lost wages of displaced workers  
• Lost sales for businesses located within the evacuated area
• Additional commuting expenses incurred as a result of the road closure

In order to file claim, you will need the following items:

• Photo ID
• Proof of residence (such as a utility bill)
• Receipts for out of pocket expenses (food, lodging, medicine, etc.)incurred since the derailment
• As necessary, a letter from their employer on company letterhead confirming employment.

In addition to documented expenses, evacuated residents also are eligible for an "inconvenience payment" of $100 per adult and $50 per child per day.
