NEW YORK, NY (WAVE) - NBC's benefit concert for victims of superstorm Sandy raised millions of dollars Friday.
Nearly $23 million was pledged by phone and online during the "Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together" benefit which aired Friday night on all networks of NBC Universal.
The money will go to the American Red Cross Relief for Sandy victims. A local Salvation Army disaster specialist has been busy supporting relief efforts in New York.
Louisville Divisional Disaster Services Coordinator, Joe Hughes, from the Salvation Army's Kentucky-Tennessee region and his team are helping first responders with search and rescue efforts on parts of Long Island.
That includes providing things like food, water, blankets and social services.
