Crews working on plan to remove remaining derailed cars

Posted: Updated:

WEST POINT, KY (WAVE) – A plan on how to remove two of the most dangerous cars involved in a train derailment is being discussed.

Emergency management officials said contractors and railway officials will submit their recommendations on how to remove the cars by Friday.

Once the proposal is submitted, the Unified Command, which is made up of emergency and Environmental Protection Agency officials, will decide how to move forward with the clean up.

Cleanup could begin as early as Monday.

The rail tracks are open and so are two lanes of Dixie Highway.

The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
