LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - What could you do with $10.5 million? A Louisville group that serves runaway and homeless kids and teens said they are going to do quite a lot.
Laurie Jackson, the National Safe Place Executive Director, said, "Many of these adolescents will become victims again and again as they face life on the street ."
Safe Place is headquartered in Louisville, but it's active in most of the states across the country.
The organization received a $10.5 million federal grant to build a training and technical help center for homeless and runaway youth.
Jackson said each year between 1.6 million and 2.3 million young people leave their home and become homeless because of abuse, neglect , substance abuse and mental health issues.
