A Johnson County woman was arraigned Thursday afternoon on a charge of attempted murder.
Renae Rowley is accused of attempting to kill her daughter's boyfriend. The couple was living with Rowley's family inside the family home in the 10610 block of South Highland Lane.
One of Rowley's daughters told KCTV5 that her mother tripped while carrying a gun, causing a bullet to fire and strike a wall.
Rowley's 19- and 20-year-old daughters live with her. The older daughter lives in the basement with her 31-year-old boyfriend, Terry Schreier. The mother apparently had been trying to get the couple to move out.
No one was injured when the gun discharged.
Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe said Rowley faces a serious offense.
"We will proceed with charges," Howe said. "We can't talk about the facts of the case, but we feel comfortable the evidence obtained during the investigation justified the charges."
But Rowley's attorney said the charges are way too serious for a simple argument with the father of Rowley's grandbaby.
Rowley apparently didn't like some of the guests that Schreier was bringing into the family home and there were allegations of drug activity.
