LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A U.S. Marine from Louisville who died earlier this year was honored and remembered.
Cpl. Aaron M. Faust, 22, died April 15 while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. On Monday, DeSales High School held a special ceremony in Cpl. Faust's honor.
Faust was a 2007 graduate of DeSales. The Veterans Day memorial service included a plaque bearing Faust's name on the DeSales Alumni Veterans Memorial monument, a wreath laying ceremony and dedication of a new granite bench next to the memorial that honors all military veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
Faust was a food service specialist and joined the Marine Corps in November 2007. Faust's unit deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom back in December 2011. His unit was scheduled to come back home in mid-summer of this year.
Many of the students currently at DeSales did not know Cpl. Faust but, said they all share a brotherhood by walking the halls of their school.
Cpl. Faust was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, NC.
Cpl. Faust's parents attended Monday's ceremony. They thanked the entire community for their love and support during this difficult time.
