LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Bells will be ringing across Kentuckiana.
Friday was the official Salvation Army kettle drive kickoff. The familiar red kettles will be popping up at stores asking for donations to help others in our community.
Major Michael Hawley with the Salvation Army explained, "We have 5,000 families that have come to us looking for assistance of different kinds, food, clothing, toys, that they will receive this Christmas, plus the ongoing services of the Salvation Army in the community."
The Salvation Army will also be taking donations at the UofL men's basketball game against FIU and the UofL women's basketball game versus Kentucky.
