Case against Daviess Co. woman facing child porn charges sent to grand jury

The Daviess County woman facing child pornography charges made her first court appearance on Monday. 

25-year-old Sarah Cox was arrested last week, and on Monday, a judge sent the case against her to a grand jury. 

One of the main questions in court was whether Cox would be released from jail, but the judge decided against that due to the nature of the charges.

Cox will remain in jail on a $45,000 bond. She is charged with a total of 1,064 counts of possession of child pornography.

Kentucky State Police says Cox worked in childcare and as a nanny in the Owensboro area.

The investigation continues and Kentucky State Police are asking parents to contact them if their children were under the care of Cox. Troopers are trying to find out whether any of those images are of local children.

The 25-year-old was emotional in the courtroom, but the county attorney's office says they weren't surprised Cox wasn't released with it being a case of this magnitude .

"In situations where a defendant may pose a risk to the community, often times the prosecution will ask that person stay in jail pending the outcome of the trial," said John Burlew, the Daviess County Assistant County Attorney. 

"I understand why Judge Payne did what he did and I feel that Sarah's safe where she is because until people find out what happened, there's going to be anger and I understand that," said Michelle Cox, Sarah's mother.

Cox remains in the Daviess County Detention Center and authorities say a grand jury will convene sometime within the next month.
