Man found dead after torching apartment identified

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Authorities have identified the man found dead inside a charred Louisville apartment following a long standoff with police on November 14.

James Boyd, 23, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the coroner.

Officers tried to serve a search warrant on Boyd at an apartment on Campbell Street in the Phoenix Hill neighborhood on Wednesday. The situation quickly escalated when Boyd shot at the officers and later set fire to the apartment.
