AUSTIN, IN (WAVE) – Crews are on the scene after a body was discovered in
Indiana.
According to the Scott County Sheriff and Indiana
State Police, just before noon Tuesday they received an anonymous tip to search
the apartment of Robert Riley.
Police arrested Riley on failure to pay child support.
Around 5:30 p.m. police began searching Riley's apartment located on Main
Street where they discovered a body.
Police have not confirmed whether or not they believe the body is that of Paul
Graupe, who went missing in the same area two days before Thanksgiving three
years ago.
Graupe was last seen at the corner of 6th and Main
Streets on November 24, 2009.
In an interview with WAVE 3 News in 2009, Graupe's
family said he was on his way to collect money owed to him from Riley, a
convicted felon. When a detective was asked about this, they would neither
confirm nor deny.
Tuesday night, Graupe's brother Hugh Pasley was on the scene. He mentioned
it was upsetting police found the body in the same place they had been asking
police to look for three years.
When asked why Riley's apartment had not been searched years ago the Sheriff
said he was not the sheriff at that time and isn't sure what happened in the
investigation but, that they would be looking into the matter.
During the course of the three years Graupe has been missing, his family offered
rewards and have never taken down signs asking for answers in his disappearance.
Even without the identity of the body, Graupe's family said they are numb and
feel shocked about the tip finally coming in the same time and the same place
where he disappeared.
The Sheriff tells WAVE 3 News, additional charges will likely come against
Riley Wednesday.
The Sheriff would not say where the body was found in the apartment.
