WASHINGTON COUNTY, IN (WAVE) – A hunting accident in
Washington County has left a Medora, IN man seriously injured.
According to a news release from the Indiana Department of
Natural Resources, Mark Collins, 51, was hunting near Coates Road west of
State Road 135 on Sunday when he fell 17 feet to the ground while trying to
climb down a ladder-style tree stand. The accident happened at approximately 5:45 p.m. The release
says he was not wearing a safety harness at the time of the fall.
Collins began yelling for help and fired his gun to try
to attract attention. Hunter Justin Couch heard Collins yelling and came to his
aid.
Collins was airlifted to University of Louisville
Hospital. The extent of his injuries is not known, but according to the press
release, he complained of a lack of feeling in his legs.
