SCOTT COUNTY, IN (WAVE) – Three years after he went
missing, court documents just released show the body of Paul Graupe, 50, was
found with an electrical cord wrapped twice around his neck and his pants
pockets turned out.
Robert Riley, 39, was formally charged Tuesday with
robbing, murdering, and moving Graupe's body in November 2009. Graupe's family
said he went to Riley's Austin, Indiana home to get a loan repaid.
Last week the Scott County Indiana Sheriff's Department
said a witness came forward with new information that led them to Graupe's body
in that home.
Court documents show that witness told the Sheriff that
Riley grabbed Graupe from behind and choked him to the point where his nose and
eyes were bleeding. He then put Graupe's body in the bathroom before putting it
in a hole in the floor. After his death, the witness told authorities Riley
showed him or her 600 dollars he claimed came from Graupe.
Last week, the Sheriff's Department said Riley confessed
to stabbing Graupe in the back.
Graupe's brother, niece and cousin were in the courtroom
when Riley was formally charged. "You're sitting there in the chair and within
five and six feet of you is the man who killed your brother. It's hard to
take," said brother Hugh Pasley.
Pasley said he is convinced they will get justice for
Graupe.
Riley is being held without bond at the Scott County
Indiana Detention Center.
