LEXINGTON, KY (WAVE) - The second man who escaped from a correctional facility has been captured.
Tyler Roberts was recaptured just before 11 a.m. Monday after escaping from Blackburn Correctional Facility on Saturday night.
A second escapee, Christopher Melton, was captured around 11:30 p.m. Sunday by the Garrard County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's office deputies said they pulled over a stolen truck with both escapees inside. They said in the truck were prison issued boots and clothing, along with a pick axe.
Melton and Roberts were originally arrested because they are believed to have been involved in an attempted home invasion on Saturday. While Roberts did not want to talk after he was recaptured, Melton had plenty to say, "I was hoping to be on the run at least until after Christmas."
He continued to say, "Chicks dig it too. It's weird. When a guy's on the run, they all want you for some reason."
Melton also said he knew what he was doing, "I knew what the penalties were whenever I crossed that fence. That's the chance I was willing to take to get home for Christmas before my mother died. She's all I got."
