LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A 12-year-old boy suffered a serious gunshot wound to
the chest Tuesday night near Fairdale, according to Louisville Metro Police.
Emergency crews were called to the 400 block of Mount Holly Road just north
of Jefferson Memorial Forest at 10:22 p.m. on a report of the shooting.
LMPD Spokesperson Alicia Smiley said several people were inside the home
when the shooting occurred. Smiley would not elaborate on what may have led to
the shooting, but she said, "We don't believe it was self-inflicted."
Smiley said the weapon involved in the shooting was a handgun and that
police had yet to determine who it belongs to.
The boy was undergoing surgery Tuesday night at Kosair Children's Hospital
and was said to be alert and talking when he arrived there. His injuries were
not considered life-threatening, according to Smiley.
