Fairdale boy shot in chest out of surgery

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A hospital spokesperson says the 12-year-old boy shot Tuesday night in Fairdale is listed in critical condition.

Zax Jones underwent surgery overnight at Kosair Children's Hospital. Zax was at a home in the 400 block of Mount Holly Road when he was shot in the chest around 10:20 p.m.

Alicia Smiley, a Louisville Metro Police spokesperson, said Zax was shot with a handgun and there were several people in the home at the time of the shooting.

While Smiley would not say what led to the shooting, she did tell WAVE 3 they do not believe the wound was self-inflicted.

Wednesday morning, LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell siad the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed.
