LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A 12-year-old boy who was shot in
the chest late Tuesday night in Fairdale is recovering from surgery to remove
bullet fragments from several organs, according to his brother.
Zax Jones was rushed to Kosair Children's Hospital after the
shooting at his home in the 400 block of Mount Holly Road. He was listed in
critical condition on Wednesday.
Despite the bullet fragments that were removed from Jones's
organs, his brother said most of the bullet is still inside the boy's body and
that he also has a broken rib.
Police are still investigating what lead to the shooting.
Jones's brother said he has heard that Zax was handing the gun to someone else when
it discharged and that neither of them knew the gun was loaded.
