LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Numerous emergency crews were on the scene of an apartment fire Wednesday night in Louisville that left three families homeless.

The fire at the Derby Run Apartments at 6600 Outer Loop was called in to MetroSafe at 5:31 p.m., according to a dispatcher. It was brought under control around 6 p.m.

Everyone got out of the apartments safely, but three units were badly damaged. Two cats had to be rescued. Both are doing fine.

Investigators believe an electrical problem may have sparked the fire.
