JENNINGS COUNTY, IN (WAVE) – A lengthy
investigation into the selling of prescription pain medication led to two
arrests in Jennings County on Tuesday.
Investigators said David "Bear"
Proffitt, 43, of North Vernon, IN and Brandy Caudill, 32, of Butlerville, IN
are responsible for a large amount of the drugs entering the community on a
regular basis.
Proffit and Caudill are charged
with dealing and conspiracy to deal in narcotics. According to the Jennings County
Sheriff's Office, more drug-related charges are expected and more arrests are
likely.
In connection to this case, officers
from the sheriff's office and agents from the FBI, ATF and the Indiana
Department of Health and Human Services executed search warrants on a home in
Country Squire Lakes on Tuesday. A second search warrant was executed on a
storage unit at a facility north of North Vernon.
As a result of the search warrants, officers seized several vehicles
and recovered three handguns. Charges
concerning the handguns were expected. The sheriff's office said Proffitt has prior
felony convictions and cannot own a handgun.
Proffitt will also face more charges as a result of an altercation at
the Jennings County Jail where according to investigators, he grabbed an
officer causing other officers to deploy a Taser to stop his aggressive
actions. No one was injured during the incident and Proffitt was then booked
into the jail.
