JACKSON COUNTY, IN (WAVE) – A Seymour teenager was arrested after a deadly crash in the White River late Wednesday afternoon.

Tyler Ross, 18, was charged with reckless homicide and operating a motor vehicle without ever having received a license. Bond was set at $10,500.

The crash happened just after 5 p.m. Wednesday on County Road 250E near Shieldstown in Jackson County.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, a Mitsubishi passenger car left the roadway and inverted in the White River. Ross and a 19-year-old male were able to escape through broken windows and call 911.

Divers with the Indiana Conservation Department, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police arrived on the scene. A wrecker removed the car from the water a short time later, and the body of Brooke Hawn, 17, of Seymour was found inside the vehicle, investigators said.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
