NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) – The men wanted for a violent assault last weekend in New Albany are under arrest.

According to Major Keith Whitlow with the New Albany Police, the assault happened over a two day period at a home in the 1500 block of Oak Street. Whitlow said the 51-year-old woman who lives in the home stated two men who came to the home on the night of November 30 battered and sexually assaulted her.

The victim said the men stayed overnight and continued to assault her and a 67-year-old man who also lives there.

One of the men, Anthony R. Bell, 23, of New Albany, was arrested December 1. He is being held in the Floyd County jail on charges of criminal deviate conduct, two counts of criminal confinement, and two counts of attempted robbery.

The second suspect, Robert A. Brooks, 30, of New Albany, was arrested on December 5 in Louisville's Beecher Terrace housing complex by Metro Police. Brooks is facing the same charges as Bell. He is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections while awaiting extradition to Indiana.

Police believe robbery was the motive for the crime. Whitlow said the man assaulted remains hospitalized with head injuries.
