Nutritious recipes for the flu season

LOUISVILLE (WAVE) - Sullivan University's Registered Dietician and Food Safety Instructor Cynthia Chandler stopped by WAVE 3 Sunrise with some nutritious recipes to help friends and family through the flu season.

Sunrise in a Glass


Per Serving

  • 1 cup milk (whole if needing calories)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup orange juice concentrate
  • 1/4 cup ice
  • 2 teaspoons sugar (or sweetener)

Directions:  In a blender, add all ingredients and blend until frothy, about one to two minutes.   Serve right away. 

*The orange juice concentrate gives you a powerful dose of Vitamin C.  If the milk causes your stomach to be upset, substitute soy milk


Ginger Lemon Tea


  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger root
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tea bag


Bring one and a half cups water to just under a boil.  Remove from heat and add ginger, lemon and the tea bag.  Let steep for five minutes.  Pour through strainer into a large mug.
