LARUE COUNTY (WAVE) - A sheriff's deputy who shot and killed a man driving toward him in a car has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Police said Friday, Deputy James Williamson tried to stop a reckless driver, prompting a chase.

Investigators said the driver, Thomas Ferguson, 38, spun out and stopped.

Williamson pulled over and began to approach the vehicle.

Police said at that point Ferguson began speeding toward Williamson, who shot at the car several times, hitting Ferguson in the head.

Ferguson died Saturday morning at University Hospital.
