Letter cites groups of student, parents outraged

WOODFORD COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - A letter sent home from a high school got several parents fired up.

The letter, sent from a Woodford County High School Associate Principal, informed parents the school would call all African American students to the cafeteria for a special assembly on Thursday.

The letter went on the say recent data showed gaps in particular groups of students, including those receiving free or reduced lunch, Hispanic and African American students.

The letter explained due to these gaps school officials planned to get those students together to offer some additional forms of support.

Woodford County's Superintendent Scott Hawkins, said the letter was never meant to upset or offend anyone, it was meant to encourage students.

The meeting was canceled.
