LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A prominent artist is facing drug charges after police seized guns and marijuana from a downtown warehouse where artists rent studio space.

Aron Conaway, 34, faces drug trafficking and criminal possession charges after detectives served a search warrant in the 700 block of South 13th Street.

LMPD photos released show a cabinet stocked with jars of marijuana and scales. Officers also seized two guns, a counterfeit $20 bill and more than $1,300 cash from a former factory building currently known as The Mammoth.

According to Conaway's website, he worked as a manager of the Open Doors Outreach program at the Louisville Visual Art Association. Conaway is also active at the Speed Art Museum and serves on several boards encouraging green energy.

The allegations are tough for other artists to comprehend.

"He's really focused on collaborative work and channeling efforts with other artists in innovative ways. He's really an asset to the community," Dave Caudill said. Caudill worked with Conaway on a now dissolved organization known as Louisville Assembly of Vanguard Art.

Conaway is scheduled for a court appearance December 17.
