LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - We all watched the shooting that killed 27 people and the gunman unfold with our eyes and our hearts. One Louisville woman also watched with her memories.

"This is beyond imaginable," said Cameron Lawrence.

She echoed what a lot of us are probably thinking, but she knows firsthand the peace that the gunman shattered.

"I'm heartbroken for the families, for my hometown," Lawrence said. "Newtown is a beautiful little town."

Lawrence grew up in Newtown. She went to school there.

"I went to Sandy Hook Elementary in fourth grade and it's as though time has collapsed," she said. "I'm in my 50s now and it's as though time has collapsed and school is very vivid for me.'

In an instant, Lawrence was back at her elementary school.

"I know that entrance," she said of watching video on television. "I know where the office is. I kind of had to stop thinking about it because I was like, 'Ok the hallway this way, the hallway that way, which way did he go?'"

She spent part of Friday morning talking to her best friend from fourth grade and is devastated to see the happy town she called home now forever linked to evil.

"What do you call it when you're smiling and laughing at the memories and you want to scream at today's realities?"

Lawrence already planned on going home next week. She was picturing Christmas lights and carols. Now she expects to find her hometown heartbroken.
