INDIANAPOLIS – Bellarmine University senior guard Chris Dowe has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday. Dowe helped the fifth-ranked Knights to a 2-0 record at their own Fern Valley Classic last week by averaging 18.5 points on 57.1 percent shooting, 4.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
In Friday's game, Dowe was one of four Knights in double figures with 12 points and three assists, while adding a spark defensively with five defensive rebounds, three blocked shots and a steal as BU contained UC Clermont 90-57.
The Louisville, Ky., native then responded with an impressive 25-point effort on 64.3 percent shooting to lead the Knights past Nova Southeastern 75-48 on Saturday to keep Bellarmine a perfect 8-0 on the season. Dowe scored 11 of the Knights' 26 first-half points and was then perfect on five of his six attempts in the final 20 minutes to secure the win. He also brought the crowd at Knights Hall to its feet in a 45-second barrage that included two dunks, two steals, and a three-pointer. In addition to his 25 points, Dowe recorded six assists, three rebounds, and two steals in the win.
This is Dowe's first weekly honor of his career and the first Player of the Week nod for Bellarmine since Vance Hall was recognized by the conference earlier this year on Nov. 19.
The Knights now get a long break before heading into GLVC play with a home contest against Quincy on Jan. 3.
