Group gathers gifts for parents of CT victims

CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN (WAVE) - A group of Hoosiers are planning to reach out to the families of victims in Newtown, Connecticut with an act of kindness from one parent to another parent.

The group will carry simple care baskets from Crawfordsville to Connecticut to help the people who lost children cope.

The people putting them together have all lost children themselves and are members of a support group called The Bereaved Parents of the USA.

The baskets include things like journals, books on grieving and candles.

Ann Hathaway, a member of the group, explained, "The yearning for those parents is way harder to deal with than that phone call cause it is only in here. Nobody else can see that. It's your individual yearning."

The group from Crawfordsville plans to make more baskets after the holidays, and deliver them to the Newtown Chapter of Bereaved Parents sometime in January.

If you would like to help by sending letters, care packages, drawings or other items the Newtown post office has dedicated a post office box to the town.

The address is P.O. Box 3700, Newtown, Connecticut 06470.
