Lane closed on I-64 in Shelby County after semi accident

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Traffic heading toward Louisville on westbound Interstate 64 was backed up after an accident that closed one lane.

According to Andrea Clifford with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the right lane is closed near the 29 mile marker in Shelby County. The crash happened in the construction zone and involved a semi pulling tandem trailers. The semi went through a guardrail and down a hillside below the interstate.

Clifford said both trailers are loaded and the area will have to be cleaned up after the semi and the trailers are brought back up to the interstate.

The right lane is closed while crews are working at the accident scene. The lane is expected to remain closed until noon.

Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad has asked his men and women to wear mourning bands for a former officer shot in the line of duty.  It was more than four decades ago when Detective Bobby Branham was critically wounded.  His widow, Mary Carroll Burnett tells us, her husband had a lot of scar tissue from multiple surgeries after the 1972 shooting and those complications led to his death May 14.
