Churches in Connecticut come together for moment of silence
By WFSB Staff
DANBURY, CT (WFSB) -
Churches across the state will be holding a moment of silence Friday morning, which will mark one week that a lone gunman forced his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School where he killed 26 people, with 20 of them being children.
Danbury is one of many communities where people will be holding special prayer vigils with churches throughout Connecticut ringing their bells.
"So many things we have no control over, this is one of those things," said United Methodist Church of Danbury Pastor Karen Karpow. "And something like this points out we have way less control than we think we do."
The United Methodist Church of Danbury will come together and pray and Karpow said she believes for many it could be an emotional vigil because it will bring back the sadness of that tragic day.
"It's going to be awful. We will be remembering, imagining and praying," she said. "It's going to be very hard."
Members of churches across Connecticut have been reaching out and not only for comfort. Many are searching for ways to help.
However, some have been looking for answers on how someone could murder so many people with most of them being children.
Karpow, like many of us, does not know the answer. However, she said she feels if we can spend a little more time with one another and care a little more, we can find comfort.
"We have a choice on how to react. And we can react by turning to light rather than darkness," she said. "We can react by helping rather than withdrawing."
