LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Indiana State Police say Interstate 65 has been reopened, but another road remains closed after a deadly crash involving a semi in northern Scott County.

The wreck around 2:30 a.m. Friday happened near the 36.5 mile marker, which is close to the Jackson County line. In a press release, Sgt. Noel Houze of the ISP Versailles post, said the semi was heading north on I-65 when the driver lost control on the snow and ice covered roadway.

Investigators said the tractor-trailer rig struck the guardrail and went between it and the concrete bridge barrier. The rig then went down the embankment onto U.S. 31. State police said the impact forced the trailer to detach, sending it through the cab killing the driver.

The driver, said to be a 47-year-old from Tennessee, has not been released.

Houze said U.S. 31 is closed to through traffic at the accident site, but traffic can enter either direction of I-65 from the interchange. U.S. 31 is expected to remain closed until the early afternoon.
