Funeral held for teen shot with handgun

LINCOLN COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – An Eastern Kentucky family said their goodbyes to a teenager killed by his own gun.

Monday, funeral services for Cody Mesaris, 16, were held.

The Lincoln County teenager died Friday for a gunshot wound from a handgun his mother gave him as a gift.

His mother and two other teenagers were in the home at the time of the shooting.

The coroner suspects Cody's death was accidental, but the investigation is ongoing.
