Fire crews on the scene of the barn fire.
A passerby was able to save a baby goat.
BOYLE COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - At least a
dozen animals died after a barn caught on fire.
The fire started Saturday in Boyle County.
By the time firefighters arrived, the barn had collapsed.
A passerby, Gary Roller, was able to
rescue a baby goat, but said he could not get to the other goats, chickens and
dogs in the barn.
Roller explained, "Apparently (the
goat) had just been born recently. Still had the umbilical cord attached.
holding it like a baby. It was
obviously wanting out of my arms so it could walk around and stretch out."
The homeowner was in Indiana for the
holidays, but is now headed back home.
The cause of the fire is still under
investigation, but an extension cord leading from the house to the barn was discovered.
Neighbors believe the cord was plugged
into a heater to warm the animals.
