KSP: 11 people killed in Christmas weekend car crashes

FRANKFORT, KY (WAVE) – Eleven people died in five separate crashes on Kentucky roadways during the Christmas holiday period, according to Kentucky State Police.

The deadly crashes happened in Jefferson, Christian, Clark, Knox and Pike Counties between 6 p.m. Friday, December 21 and 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, December 25. KSP officials said the crashes in Christian, Knox and Pike Counties involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Preliminary statistics from KSP indicate that 729 people have died on Kentucky roadways in 2012 through December 25. 16 fewer people died in car crashes in Kentucky during the same time period in 2011.
