NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) – The New Albany Police Department will hold a gun buyback on Friday, December 28 but only certain people can participate and only certain guns will be accepted.

Other forms of acceptable identification include a photo ID issued by an employer and a current utility bill in the person's name with a New Albany address printed on it.

Only operational, modern firearms (handguns, rifles and shotguns) will be accepted for surrender. There is no limit on the number of firearms that can be turned in. No muzzleloaders or black powder-type firearms, air guns, etc. will be accepted.

People wishing to participate should unload the firearms before turning them in and avoid walking along city streets with the firearms they plan to surrender.
