An effort to put the Phoenix Coyotes' deal in the hands of Glendale voters has failed.
Ken Jones of Back to Sanity, the PAC that wanted to put the multi-million deal with prospective team buyer Greg Jamison, confirmed they failed to get the roughly 7,000 signatures needed for the referendum.
Jones released a statement on Friday saying, "We lost because the money we expected to help pay signature collectors did not materialize."
Earlier this week, Glendale's acting city manager signed the deal for $300 million over 20 years that pays Jamison to run the city-owned Jobing.com Arena.
City spokeswoman Julie Watters said now Jamison must finish his deal with the NHL before he can sign the deal.
Watters said they don't yet have a timeline on that.
