GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

One man was killed and another hospitalized in critical condition after the pickup truck in which they were riding rolled near 83rd Avenue and Bell Road in Glendale late Sunday night.

Glendale police said the 23-year-old driver of the truck hit a median and lost control of the truck just before midnight. The truck careened off the roadway, through a fence and into an empty lot on the northwest corner of West Bell Road.

The pickup rolled, critically injuring the two passengers in the truck, according to police. The driver was not injured.

A 52-year-old Peoria man died from injuries after he was airlifted to a Valley hospital, according to police. His identity was being withheld until his family could be notified.

The second passenger, a 32-year-old Peoria man, sustained life-threatening injuries and was in critical condition at a Valley hospital.

Neither passenger was wearing a seat belt, police said.

Police closed 83rd Avenue for about two hours for their investigation. Speed and alcohol were being investigated as possible contributing factors, police said.

No other information was immediately available.
