Five people are arrested and a child is taken away after Evansville Police found several active meth labs inside an Evansville home.
It happened early Thursday morning at 814 Barker Avenue.
Joseph Peek and Heather Mossberger are both charged with manufacturing meth and neglect of a dependant. They're the parents of the two year old girl that was in the home.
Also arrested and charged with manufacturing meth are Sammy Grisham, Joshua Hedderich and one juvenile.
It was close to midnight when patrol officers with the Evansville Police Department smelled an odor coming from the trash bin behind the home at 814 Barker Avenue.
"Even though it's fifteen degrees last night, they're driving around with the windows down because they know that's a good way to try and find these meth labs is through the chemical smell," Sgt. Jason Cullum told 14 News.
The officers weren't able to make contact with the people inside so they got a search warrant.
"They found several active one pot meth labs as well as several items used to manufacture meth," says Jason.
Officers say the most disturbing part was the toddler who was inside the home.
Police say CPS was called and the child was taken to a local hospital to be checked out because of exposure to the chemicals.
Police say she's okay and her grandma came and took possession of the child.
A neighbor who doesn't want to be identified tells 14 news this type of activity is common in the neighborhood.
"I don't let my kids go out to even play in the yard unless I've got the door open and I can hear them."
The four adults are in the Vanderburgh County Jail.
