LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Police say they've taken a major bite out of crime with the arrests of two people early Saturday morning.
Troy Gaines Junior, 22, and Shaundrell Robinson, 33, were arrested just after 4:00 Saturday morning right after police say they had committed their latest crime at the Preston Highway Speedway gas station.
Police have been looking for them for months.
"Det. Bell located a vehicle that fitted their description. The Speedway was right there in that area of Preston Highway. He rode by that business and observed the hold up taking place," said LMPD Sgt. Eric Black.
The charges against the pair are lengthy.
"These subjects have been charged with 23 robberies in the Louisville metro area," said LMPD Lt. Jennifer Coe.
The two men gave police a motive.
"Life in the fast lane. Substance abuse. Strip clubs. Just deciding not to go to work everyday. They said that just fueled everyday that when they needed money, partying and substance abuse was a catalyst," Sgt. Black said.
Police say their greediness was part of their downfall.
"We started getting robberies, several a day and sometimes as much as three in one hour," Sgt. Black said.
The robberies started in late November, a few of them included shots being fired like surveillance video shows inside Clarksville's Kopp Lane Food Mart just two days after Christmas.
While no one was struck, the robberies take a toll on the victims.
"Those people go to work everyday and work hard and to have someone come in and victimize them and put a gun in their face is terrifying," said LMPD Sgt. Josh Carr.
They two are also charged with robberies in Radcliff, KY and Jeffersonville, IN.
