LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - No criminal charges will be filed by the Commonwealth Attorney's office after a daycare van crash that killed an employee and sent several children to the hospital.

Monday, the Jefferson County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office said it will not file charges against former Heavenly Angels daycare owner Lavonia Lewars.

The June 12, 2012 crash on Algonquin Parkway sent 14 children to the hospital and killed Tiffany Belk.

The Commonwealth's Attorney's officer said after reviewing the Louisville Metro Police Department Traffic Investigation, it determined there was not enough evidence to support criminal charges.

The day care has since shut down.

Lewars still faces criminal charges of cheating the State out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

For the past few years, officer involved shootings have led to unprecedented protests. Backlash and violence at times have been so severe, some police said it made them hesitate or even avoid some actions on the job. It's called the Ferguson effect - a reference to the Missouri town where an officer shot Michael Brown in 2014.
