FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is considering placing one or more dams on the Harpeth River, where a previously existing dam was ceremoniously removed last summer.
According to The Tennessean, local governments are planning a $1.4 million study to examine ways to reduce the risk of flooding and repair the river's ecosystem. The river's watershed includes parts of Williamson, Davidson, Cheatham, Rutherford and Hickman counties.
A previous dam was removed at Franklin last summer, restoring the river to a free-flowing stream for the first time in 49 years.
The newspaper cited options for flood control that include adding one or more dams along the river.
The suggestion has drawn the ire at least one conservation group.
